Candy Apple Blue - Graphic Equalizer (Official Music Video)
You are cordially invited to join us in the live chat room this Friday at 1 PM as we excitedly premiere the music video for our new single called Graphic Equalizer!
Come set your reminder now to be there with us to join in on all of the technological fun! If you are a lover of 80s music, catchy melodies, and old school HiFi stereo equipment then you're in store for a real treat!
"Graphic Equalizer is an ode to the glory days of the Hi-Fi high-end audio hardware units of the 1980s. There was a time when all home stereo systems came shipped with a graphic equalizer and huge tower floor-standing speakers. Our fascination with this device, which allows the separate control of the frequency bands in audio to suit your personal taste or the acoustics of your room, led to us composing this song." ~ Carly Emerick of Candy Apple Blue

Releases November 18, 2022
Official Music Video Premiere at 1PM (GMT-4) on Nov. 18th, 2022

"So my friend, William, recently asked me what Graphic Equalizer was about. I explained to him that it was exactly about the hardware units that came shipped with most home audio stereo systems back in the 1980s and my fascination with that device.
Hoyt and I didn't want the song to be about a romantic relationship, although we could have easily gone that route. We thought that there are enough songs like that out there already. We thought the best way to keep the song original and unique was to keep the subject matter strictly about Hi-Fi audio.
In this day and age, it's hard to think up a song title that hasn't been used before. Graphic Equalizer is one of those unusual titles. I remember back when Rihanna first released Umbrella. I thought oh how clever. If you ask me a great song starts with a great song title!"
~ Carly of Candy Apple Blue
"An audiophile is a person who is enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction. This accomplishment could never be achieved without the aid of a Graphic Equalizer. Our song is a heartfelt dedication to this glorious device!"
~ Carly of Candy Apple Blue

"Graphic Equalizer is dedicated to those of you who wanted to hear Carly and I sing again. This new retro wave song screams early 1980s with influences ranging from The Buggles, A Flock of Seagulls, Berlin, and Missing Persons.
We originally composed Graphic Equalizer on an old Casio SK-1. This model was a toy sampling keyboard from 1985. It had only 4-note polyphony which was just enough for us to compose the chords. We hit the preprogrammed drum beat, and off we were composing the song. We did use the sampling feature which had a time limit of just over a second which was enough for us at the time. In the official version of the song, (which releases on Nov. 18th) we used a vocoder instead.
We are really excited to share this new song with you. If you're a Hi-Fi audio nerd, like us, Graphic Equalizer might just end up being your new favorite song!"
OUT NOW! Enver Zuerous debuts a song we wrote called "What Would You Do?"!
Back in 1998, we composed a song called "What Would You Do?" and recorded it with our first band The Inertia Case. 24 years later the song got an amazing makeover by Enver Zueros! And it's a hell of a cover!
We LOVE it! ♥
Please take a moment out to give it a listen, a like, and a comment! We are so very proud of the work that Enver put into the song. You can tell he poured his heart into our mysterious dark anthem and made it his very own!
We are excited to tell you that our forthcoming single Graphic Equalizer has been sent off to the final stages of mixing and mastering! This song is being remixed by Juno Dreams! We are so proud of this track! It's very unique and totally retro synth-pop!
In the meantime, we've begun to work on a new song called A Touch Too Much! Hoyt and I have already laid down the demo vocals for this new song so things are moving forward quite steadily.
In conclusion, expect to few new singles. Watch this space for more details surrounding both "Graphic Equalizer" and "A Touch Too Much"! 🎤
Candy Apple Blue - I Live 4 U (alt-rock demo mix) ft. Nick Bramlett
Early this year, we released our song I Live 4 U featuring Nick Bramlett. I recently found this alt-rock mix that we were working hard on but decided not to use on my computer. I thought that it would be fun to share it with you guys so that you could hear the progression of the song.
The song's arrangement went through many changes during its production phase. At the time, we really couldn't decide which direction to take the song in. The track is a grab bag of pop, r&b, and 90's alternative rock. Taking the song in this more alternative rock direction just didn't feel right to us. It just didn't sound like a Candy Apple Blue record.
So, for the official version of the song, we decided to add more synthesizers to the mix and changed up the time signature a bit. The official version of I Live 4 U can be heard here: https://youtu.be/EHpuXUL8chA
For the sake of archival purposes, we decided to make this alternative rock demo mix of I Live 4 U available for the first time here on our official YouTube channel.
Thank you, Techmoan, so very much for using our songs "Game Over" and "Thank My Lucky Stars" to demonstrate the compact disc 💿 features of Panasonic RX-D552 and D55 models. As big fans of your channel, we are always so overjoyed when our music appears in your product review videos. It's the equivalent, to us, of hearing our music on the radio! We would agree that the D55 model has better sound quality. 🍬🍎🟦
Our album Second Sight can be found here on the compact disc format:
Now there's a lonely little girl that spends too much time in the past
She's an outcast
And the broken home she came from forced her to grow up too fast
It was a contrast
Lead In:
From the life she visioned for herself
And the dreams she put up on the shelf
Don't you cry, come alive
Chorus:
Baby blue, do you wanna come out tonight and shake off the blues?
Baby blue, it's about time you live your life, you've got nothing to lose
Baby blue, no one's gonna live your life for you, ooh ooh
Baby blue, come on out and have a drink or two
Verse Two:
I still remember the first time I saw her she was wearing a frown
on the playground
She was always an outsider, used to being pushed around
in a small town
Lead In 2:
You get to feelin' isolated and bored
Can't you hear me knocking at your door?
I'm askin', let me in?
Chorus:
Baby blue, do you wanna come out tonight and shake off the blues?
Baby blue, it's about time you live your life, you've got nothing to lose
Baby blue, no one's gonna live your life for you, ooh ooh
Baby blue, come on out and have a drink or two
Lead In 3:
Now there's a marvelous moon in the sky
Like night owls we can fly so high
I just want you to see, you're so special to me
Last Chorus:
Baby blue, now do you wanna come out tonight and shake off the blues?
Baby blue, it's about time you lived your life, you've got nothing to lose
Baby blue, no one's gonna live your life for you, ooh ooh
My Baby blue, come on out and have a drink or two
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh,
Baby baby, my baby blue

The backstory of this song goes like this. We lost our father at the age of 68. He was in a bad car accident that tragically ended his life ten years ago. Our father was not only a kind and happy man but he was also quite a gifted singer and guitarist.
His love for music was passed on to us. As children, we would often hear our dad in the kitchen strumming away at his guitar and belting out his favorite country songs. Hoyt and I often credit our passion for music-making and songwriting to him.
In late 2010, we encouraged our father to start playing music again. He had stopped playing many years before that. He was hesitant at first because he didn't think at the age of 66 that he still had it in him. His voice had changed due to his age and his fingertips were soft from not playing guitar for years.
In October that year, we sat down at the table in his yellow-painted kitchen and started composing a bluegrass country tune called Mean-Hearted Man. It all started with a title that Hoyt came up with. The song is based on real-life events. It took us about a week or two to finish writing it. Once we finished writing the song, we knew that we had something that was very special. Slowly chipping away at his reluctance, we encouraged our father to record it.
Recording the song proved to be a bit challenging because our father was so used to always playing guitar and singing at the same time. He found it a bit difficult to record the isolated vocal tracks and the guitar parts separately. At the time, I thought that the end result would sound better if we recorded those parts independently.
After we recorded and released the initial version of Mean-Hearted Man, we got a lot of love and support from friends and family. People really liked it. Although my dad didn't think that his performance was good enough. He was really hard on himself and thought that he could do better. So we talked about it and decided that we would re-record it. We took the song back down off the internet in hopes of eventually replacing it with a newly re-recorded version.
We kept talking about working together again on more new songs so that we'd have an entire album's worth of original material for dad. Hoyt and I were so very excited about the prospect of him finally living his dream and at the age of 66 putting out a debut album. But time was a thief and before we all knew it, well over a year had gone by and we all got busy doing other things.
In celebration of our father's life, we decided to officially release his first and only recording of "Mean-Hearted Man". Anyone who knew our father, better known as "Uncle Bob", would tell you that he was anything but a "Mean-Hearted Man". He was a very happy, fun-loving, open-minded, and kind-hearted human being.
And now, after 10 years of its absence, we proudly present to you our song Mean-Hearted Man.
Back in the late 1990s, we wrote and recorded this mystical pop song titled What Would You Do? The Inertia Case was the first band that we formed. Curious? Hear it on your favorite music streaming platform now.
"Candy Apple Blue is still hanging in there! After a decade of producing DIY indie synth-pop, the band shows no signs of slowing down!" ~ Alexander Storm MGMT.
Over the years, we've gotten many requests to release the instrumental versions of some of our synthwave-laced synth-pop tracks. So we thought that it was only fitting for us to finally open the vaults and put together a proper 14-track album for the instrumental music lovers in the synthwave community.
The instrumental versions included here are from our most popular pop titles. Most of these instrumentals have never seen the light of day until now. Listed below is the complete track listing of the songs that we choose to include on "Synthwave Instrumental Essentials".
We want to thank those of you that took the time out to write us. This album is for you. Lastly, we'd like to thank Juno Dreams who had his hand in most of these productions in one way or another. This album would not have been possible without him.

The song Baby Blue is really very special to us. Anyone who's ever identified as an underdog should be able to relate to it. It's one of the songs that we are most proud of as songwriters. It's an autobiographical work really. We poured our hearts into this composition.
If you like story songs, you are in for a real treat! It has a bit of a 1970s Motown backbeat. It's soulful and has a bit of a melancholy spirit, yet it's iced with hope. It's inspired by the great story songs of the past that we used to always hear on the radio when we were kids. Songs like Cher's Half-Breed, Helen Reddy's Angie Baby, Vicki Lawrence's The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, and John Conlee's Friday Night Blues. People really don't write story songs anymore so we decided to do just that!
Nick Bramlett delivers his most heartfelt lead vocal delivery to date and he's never sounded better! We also have on both electric and acoustic guitars the extraordinary Micah Blakeslee. The amazing Christina Sivavo and Carly Emerick are on backing vocals. Baby Blue was mixed and mastered by Math Bishop who always brings his A-game!
