Bad Days Are Gone (The Music Video)

"BAD DAYS ARE GONE"

© 2011 J. AMOS / MRIX MUZIK (ASCAP)

Words & Music by James Amos, Carly Emerick & Hoyt Emerick

Verse One:

Whenever you say you love me, I don't mind

There's something 'bout the way it hurts that keeps me so satisfied

You're pulling on all the right strings, all entwined
You're the only thing on earth that makes me feel this way inside

Chorus:
Bad Days Are Gone, Yeah they're gone!

Verse Two:
My friends are saying that I'm changing, like who am I?
I used to sit around and mope, and waste all my precious time.

You can take the drivers seat babe, enjoy the ride
You're the only one that makes a snow storm feel warm outside

(Repeat Chorus)

Verse Three:
I go back to my childhood in dreams and wonder why
Wrong choices were made for me as I stood idly by

A candy coated karma future, Corona with lime
Let's party til the sun comes up, it's getting better all the time

(Repeat Chorus)

The Bed Is Cold (The Music Video)

"The Bed Is Cold"
© 2011 MRIX MUZIK (ASCAP) All Rights Reserved.
Words & Music by Carly Emerick & Hoyt Emerick

Verse 1:
You feel like you'll never break free
and you're a prisoner of me
I keep you away from the life that you want

Verse 2:
It's scary to think about it
The murder you want to commit
could go undetected if I don't tell no one

Lead In 1:
The ceiling is falling down on me
I keep one eye open, open when I sleep

Chorus:
The bed is cold and I've known it for a long time
It's getting old, The bed is cold
The bed is cold and I've known it for a long time
The truth be told, The bed is cold

Verse 3:
I wake with a chill each morning
Has nobody seen the warning
Or are these delusions imaginary

Verse 4:
The lock that I found on the storm door
A silhouette the moves across the floor
My every suspicion corrupts my sanity

Lead In:
Four walls are closing in on me
The air is freezing thirty two degrees

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:
Though I have been looking for it everywhere
The feeling is gone but there's a ghost of me there

(Repeat Chorus)

Dave Greening's Piano Reprise

We wanted to send out a very special note of "Thank You" to Dave Greening for his wonderful live piano performance on The Bed Is Cold (The Dave Greening Piano Reprise).

The chilling rendition will be playing in the closing credits of our upcoming music video. It's emotionally charged and just GORGEOUS!! Dave really put a lot of heart into his performance and we couldn't have been more excited to have him on board.

We can't wait for everyone to hear it! It really is something special and we feel really privileged to have Dave shine his light on us!

Here's an exclusive first listen:

Two Simulover Remixes

©2011 Simulover
Simulover™ is the musical brainchild of superstar DJ/Producer Alex Lauterstein and Indie Electropop Artist/Producer SIRPAUL™.

We feel so proud and privileged that two of the remixes that we submitted for this hot new electropop band Simulover where chosen to be included on their release for the Tourniquet Ep.  First up is a sinister but slick take on their track called Tourniquet. It's a little dirty, raw and yes a bit sexual. We really hope that you will like it as it's something a little different for us.

Tourniquet (Candy Apple Blue Dub) by Simulover

Next in line is the beautiful electropop ballad titled "Unbroken".  We loved the original version so much that we didn't want to stray to far away from it. We just changed things up just a bit and tried to give the track more punch. We couldn't resist singing in some backing vocal tracks too! It turned out to to be a nice alternative synth remix with a nice bright Candy Apple Blue coating!

Unbroken (Candy Apple Blue Midnight Mix) by Simulover

These tracks are both available now for retail purchase on iTunes. Thank you Simulover for including us on your official release!

Filming a “no budget” music video is getting to be real fun! This one was no exception. We pretty much went thrift shopping one day in late August and shoot a music video for “David” at the same time. Being an indie artist gives you this special license to do what you want when you want to. I’m sure if ever we get signed to a major label the first thing that they are doing to do is take down our YouTube account and throw away the key. Anyway we are proud of the song and wanted to give it some wings. We really hope you guys like it!

It Happens All The Time (Demo Version)

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC:
__________________________________________________

FYI Disclaimer: Please be informed that this recording is a demo track that has been written for but not actually recorded by any of the fore-mentioned artists in the title... yet.
__________________________________________________

We are HUGE fans of the Pet Shop Boys, most notably their production work on the Liza Minnelli 'Results' and Dusty Springfield 'Reputation' albums have always been real 'stand outs' for us. So it was really only a matter of time before we stepped up as songwriters and wrote something that we felt would have been perfect for either of these two dashing diva darlings. We wanted in our own way to pay special homage to, raise a glass to and pay tribute to these incredible albums that still haunt us over 22 years later.

You could say that we were inspired but driven with mad endless passion would be more accurate. We wanted to compose something that would fit in seamlessly with the 'Results' or 'Reputation' albums. We jumped right in to compose "It Happens All The Time".

Going forth with its strong 1980's production values, we knew this theatrical dance ballad would be hard to place. We both decided to write something with a sophisticated edge. Taking on more of a Stephen Sondheim 'Losing My Mind' cabaret writing style, this song fresh out of the studio in 2010 seemingly had a limited market sounding like it came straight out of 1989 instead. We tried to imagine how Liza would sing this song when we went in to record the demo. I put on my best Liza voice. "Jazz Hands!" :)

We did try several times to pitch this song to Liza but to no avail. At the time back in 2010, She had just wrapped up production on her 2010 release 'Confessions' and wasn't looking for any new material. And unfortunately, getting this song to Dusty was out of the question because we wrote this composition long after she left this world. Well Liza or Dusty never heard it... but we thought that you should!

Because of the YouTube success we had with the song that we penned with Stevie Nicks in mind, "What Would You Do?" we'd decided to do it once again. We've been sitting on this demo for 'It Happens All The Time" for well over a year now. We thought that it made perfect sense to put another presentation together so that people could hear the song. Otherwise it'd just be here sitting in a box in the corner of the room.

Liza, if you are out there reading this right now... it's our innocent hope that through the magic of the Internet that you will consider recording this song. It was written for YOU!

And Dusty... We refuse to let your memory die... your music and gripping vocal deliveries live with us in our haunted hearts forever.

If anyone is interested in recording / releasing this song please visit The Harry Fox Agency for licensing information: http://www.harryfox.com/public/Licensee.jsp

We really hope that you enjoy our little 80s flavored dramatic pop ballad, 'It Happens All The Time'. It truly was a labor of love and it's very dear to our hearts.

Sincerely, Sibling Songwriters... Carly & Hoyt Emerick

Verse 1:
My friends call me up to investigate
I've fallen in love and I know it's too late
A haunted heart knows it's nothing new
I couldn't commit when you asked me to

Chorus:
I think of you and it happens all the time
I think of you and you're always on my mind

Verse 2:
I feel your presence though you are not there
A delicate breeze blows through the evening air
Archangels wage war with you
Unbreakable bonds are now torn in two

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:
And though I try my best not to count the cards...
Why do I bet against the odds?
I cannot fake this grand mistake...
The world goes on spinnin' but I should have given you my heart

Verse 3:
And in a dream that's destined to come true
Even though I am no good for you
A place in private we'll retreat...
I'll lay my kingdom at your feet...

(Repeat Chorus)

This wonderful electro pop country song was kind of born in cyberspace. Here’s what I mean... While maintaining our SoundCloud account this summer we were fortunate enough to connect with France music producer Laurent Perrot (aka Running Reptile). We were thrilled with his talent so we sent him an email to see if he would be interested in remixing one of our upcoming singles called “Tricks”.

Immediately he was on board and in no time he showered us with four different remixes for our Tricks Remix EP. All of which were used. It was such a nice union that we decided to compose an original track together as well.

As soon as I heard this instrumental piece for this song, I was confident that Candy Apple Blue could write something worthwhile over it. We made a few arrangement changes, laid down some lead & backing vocals. Before we knew it, another song was born. We titled it “You Make Me Happy”.

We are very proud of what we came up with and filmed a music video for it only a week after writing & recording it.

We want to send out a special "thank you" to Laurent Perrot who’s been so very busy these day that unfortunately he’s put his music on the back burner. Also we wanted to thank our father, R.D Emerick, for starring in our third official music video! We love you Dad! Thanks for making music such an important part of our lives.

“You make me happy, real damn happy all the time!”

Going Down In La-La Land (Original Theme Song)

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC:
__________________________________________________________

In early 2010, Indie NYC film producer Casper Andreas contacted us about the possibility of composing the theme song for his upcoming screen adaptation of "Going Down in La La Land". His latest theatrical movie was going to be based on the novel written by Andy Zeffer.

Because of the success of his film "Between Love & Goodbye" and our involvement with the soundtrack, we couldn't help but to indulge once again. It was a huge compliment for us as songwriters to be approached like this and we were thrilled!

It didn't take long to dig deep with personal reflection and write the very first line... "Driving through my life invisible red lights have always tried to slow me down." It was a little scary for us, sitting down to compose this piece, because it was the first new song we wrote after taking a 7 year hiatus.

We produced about four different versions of this song. All of which were submitted but not approved. Mr. Andreas told us loved the song, however, he wanted something a little more upbeat with a faster tempo to end his movie with.

©2011 SIRPAUL
Running short on time and experiencing ear fatigue, we immediately contacted electropop recording artist, SIRPAUL. We needed a fresh production ear on this song and fast! With only a 24 hour deadline to place the song, SIRPAUL confidently stepped in and rose to the challenge! One day later, his stellar dance remix of "Going Down In La-La Land" was excitedly approved by Mr. Andreas! It was exactly what he was looking for! Hooray!

We wanted to shine a light both versions of the song. We are very proud of both productions and wanted give you the behind the scenes story.
So, without further adieu, here is both our own very special release of "Going Down In La-La Land" along with the stellar dance floor classic SIRPAUL version.

Thanks always for your love & continued support of our little band project Candy Apple Blue. ~ Sincerely, Hoyt & Carly

Carly's T-Shirt Mishap?

Carly's got "All The Will In The World"

I got a lot of slack recently from our in-house management team for showing up wearing this Blondie “Call Me” A-Shirt to our promo photo shoot. Once again we were accused of “promoting” an outside artist's brand. Ratts-ola!

Hoyt was getting pretty good too at sporting some pretty awesome vintage tee’s in our promotional videos and photos. He used to wear The Cars, The Cure, and Joan Jett. Well, now it was my turn to bring shame to the Candy Apple Blue camp. A girl just wants to have fun? Okay, admitting, I guess I should have known better but when I saw this old Blondie A-shirt hanging in my closet with its screaming fuchsia color I just couldn’t resist it!

So am I promoting Candy Apple Blue, Blondie’s Debbie Harry "Call Me" song, or pink fuchsia? Possibly all three?

Admittedly, at this early stage in our career, it doesn’t make much sense to wear another band's brand or logo on our bodies. In my mind's eye, I thought that if Britney could wear a Madonna tee then I should be able to wear a Blondie one. It's a funny comparison. Meanwhile, in reality, I couldn't even get arrested!

The truth is that our management team is right and I’m very grateful for their input, guidance, and feedback. Special “Thank you” to Alexander Storm Management and MK Kim for setting us on the right path!

How did it end? I decided that I'd show them and I just took my shirt off! Photo below.

Love & laughs, Carly Emerick

My revenge was to take my Blondie T-Shirt off!

All The Will In The World

Candy Apple Blue

"Catchy & melodic, heart felt lyrics and great vocal deliveries! "

Never missing a beat, we have released our second single this month! It is a wonderful little bubble gum pop record that we are so proud of!

We had very little time to come up for air in the month of May. We are excited to announce just how well our new single, "All The Will In The World", has been received. Some saying "it's our best production work yet", "sounds very 80's like i adore, great job!", "new old school 80's that's new again but still sounds old school, how confusing in short... awesome sauce", "it's just awesome!", "real catchy tune", "I just can't help smiling at the lead melody", "nice and poppy great production" and so many more.

We are very thankful that, in only it's third day of release, the purchase link has had over 80 people share it & hit the "like" button on facebook. Purchase Link

We wrote this new synthpop song from a very selfish place. Obviously throwing out current day music production trends and going back to, where in our minds, all the good music came from... yes the 1980s!

So far... It's been compared to some early Madonna records like "Think Of Me", Regina 's "Baby Love" and even Alisha 's "Baby Talk". Someone even told us it has a slight Missing Persons "Right Now" sound quality to it. All HUGE compliments to us.

So we will be filming yet another classic "no budget" music video for this one too. We have a lot of great ideas for it. Now let's just see if we can execute them on film. More news on the video to soon follow.

As always thanks for being so supportive of our music and our little band project.

A million smiles, Carly

PS. We would like to send a huge shout out to MK iMagery for his brilliant & vibrant single cover artwork!

What the 45 Record would look like!

Matt Pop Candy Apple Blue Matt Mix

Graveyard (Matt Pop's Single Mix) by CandyAppleBlue

Graveyard (Matt Pop’s Single Mix)

Matt Pop Candy Apple Blue Graveyard

Graveyard (Matt Pop's Single Mix) by CandyAppleBlue

We welcome you back to the Graveyard!

Make no mistake about it, Matt Pop is the new Dr. Luke! His breathtaking top-notch production skills have gained him the attention of some pretty major players in the music industry. Most notably, Matt has done official remixes for pop sensation Kylie Minogue. He’s also recently worked with Rupaul on his popular RuPaul’s Drag Race Soundtrack. His official YouTube channel, MattPopOfficial, has a huge fan base with some pretty die-hard followers.

When we first heard what Matt Pop did with “Graveyard” we were utterly floored. I turned to Hoyt and was literally picking my jaw up off the floor. I had goose bumps. It felt like someone had just told me I hit the lottery. As the music magically poured out of the speakers, the sound went straight to my heart. I was in love. Matt Pop single handedly made Candy Apple Blue shine brighter than we ever have on our own. This must be the same feeling Gwen Stefani had when she first heard what producer Matthew Wilder did with her song “Don't Speak”. What relief it was for us as singer / songwriters to have someone else come in and breath new life into one of our songs. It is the most profound feeling.

Matt heroically threaded together many different flavors of pop music into this new production. It’s the perfect blend of then and now! It sounds to me like Romeo Void, Strawberry Switchblade, Voice Of The Beehive, La Roux, Goldfrapp, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Duran Duran all in a blender. But you be the judge.

We feel Matt Pop did what producer Alan Tarney did for Aha's smash hit single "Take On Me". If you know the songs history, Tony Mansfield (Naked Eyes, The B-52's) actually produced the first release of their song, which failed to chart. It wasn't until Alan Tarney stepped in and breathed new life into the song that it became a major hit record.

After listening to both versions of Graveyard back to back, it became clear to us that ours sounded more like a demo recording. With a renewed passion for the song, Matt encouraged us to re-edit the original music video with this new version. He thought the graveyards filmed in the video had a certain “Burtonesque” flare. With this newfound excitement, Hoyt & I wanted to include some extra scenes and some bonus film footage in its second release. We thought by adding more to it, the music video would be more fun for the people who might have already seen it the first time around.

Graveyard is now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or your other favorite digital download music store.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have supported our music over the past year. We have noticed and we are very appreciative of your time.

Welcome back to the Graveyard! ~ Carly Emerick
